Monday Movie Review

It's been a long while since I've done a Netflix movie review blog post. Well yesterday we made a big purchase and got a great Superbowl deal on a new 55" LED HDTV and Blu-ray bundle package. We'll be putting this big TV downstairs and moving our 46" upstairs in the kid's loft. The kids are stoked because now they have a blu-ray upstairs in their loft that plays their Netflix movies. Lately they have been into watching WordWorld and the Pink Panther. We're going to attempt to mount and hang these TV's ourselves, hope that goes well!!

The Karate Kid
rated PG
I gave this movie **** stars.
I don't know about any of you, but I grew up watching the old Karate Kid movies with Danny and Mr. Miyagi and loved them! So I was looking forward to seeing this remake and I believe Smith and Chan did a great job! It goes with the same old storyline: kid gets bullied, he finds teacher who teaches to defend himself. And this all takes place in Beijing. If you have a free movie night, this is one worth watching.

Green Zone
rated R
I gave this movie *** and a 1/2 stars.
Did any of you ever wonder why we went to war and found no weapons of mass destruction? Stephen and I have pondered that and it makes us sad to think that the leaders of our country may have had another agenda to go to war. Well this movie covers this very topic. I think Matt Damon is a great actor and he did a great job in this movie. Like with many typical war thriller movies there is a bit of bad language, but otherwise it was a very interesting movie and worth seeing!

A Perfect Getaway
rated UR
I gave this movie *** stars.
The story of this movie takes place in Hawaii with Newlyweds. They hear in the news that another Newlywed couple on another island had been brutally murdered by a couple. They decide to continue on with their adventurous honeymoon meeting strange couples along the way having you wonder if any of them might be the murderers. Stephen and I enjoyed this flick. It had us guessing along the way. And talking about what we would do if we were in this situation. It's an entertaining crime thriller.

Monday Movie Review

The Diary of Anne Frank
rated NR
I gave this movie *** and 1/2 stars
Teenager Anne Frank and her Jewish family hide from the Nazis during World War II. As time drags on, they deal with both the terrifying fear of their situation and normal family life. I read this classic book when I was a teenager, and I also visited the Frank's hideaway in Amsterdam Holland. I thought the acting on this film was good and it really captured the diary of this young Jewish girl. It's worth seeing, especially if you've never read the story.

The Crazies
rated R
Stephen probably gave this movie ** and 1/2 stars
When a plane crashes in a small town, a secret biological weapon is released. As the toxic substance infiltrates the local water system, some residents become gravely ill, while others descend into homicidal madness. Stephen watched this movie in the car while we were driving to Mississippi and Louisiana. He said it actually was better than he expected. I'm not a big Horror film fan so I didn't partake in watching this one.

Great Metaphor

It's been quite awhile since I've done my Monday Movie Review post. With the busy-ness of guests visiting, school ending and vacation trips I haven't had time. And I guess this post could technically go under my movie reviews but more importantly than my review of the movie was the awesome metaphor I heard used in it.

I definitely recommend this movie, "The Case for Faith". It's a thoughtful meditation on the rational case for faith, and investigates tough intellectual objections to Christianity: Why is Jesus the only path to God? And if God is so loving, then why is there so much suffering? Besides the Catholic blogs on my sidebar list, I also do follow and read up on some Protestant blogs. And I also follow discussion boards where Christians interact with people from other religions as well as atheists.

Obviously since I am Catholic I would recommend books or dvd's by Catholic authors, but it's not to say I am opposed to recommending non-Catholic Christian works. And in this movie's case the author's Protestant slant isn't predominant in his presentations, therefore I believe Strobel's answers can help clarify in Christian viewers' minds their opinions when discussing faith with their skeptical friends.

So rent it or stream it from Netflix, it's worth the time to watch it!

The awesome metaphor I heard while watching the movie was from one of the guest speakers on the movie, a paraplegic woman, discussing the topic of if God is so loving why is there evil in this world. This topic can somewhat be hard to understand, especially for skeptical persons that possibly object there is a God. As Christians we are comforted and continue on with hope by His Word. But many times skeptics find using His Word to answer the question about why a loving God would allow evil is circular reasoning. So when this woman in the movie used a non-Biblical metaphor - it made awesome sense! Well to me anyways - and also maybe because her metaphor is easily related to by parents. She looked at it like this, when a baby is given an immunization shot, the baby does not understand why an immunization is needed, all the baby knows is that this shot causes great pain and suffering (well it's short lived :). But if you were to ask any toddler at their well check up visit if they would like a shot as opposed to a sticker, I guarantee all toddlers would refuse the shot and say, "No way Jose ma'am!". Because to them they don't see (or understand) the good (comfort and hope) that comes later from the present bad (pain and suffering) that the shot causes.

So bad things will continue to happen in this world, and God is present when they happen. Jesus defines discipleship as one's willingness to suffer with Him. So as Christians we must offer our sufferings to the Father as He did. The sufferings of the present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us. We thus have hope that any sufferings we or others endure, no matter how difficult, will pale in comparison to the life of eternal bliss that awaits us. Rom. 8:18 If we unite our sufferings with His, we will be comforted by Him. 2 Cor. 1:5-7 Lastly, suffering causes us to turn to God and purifies us from sin because Jesus' grace is sufficient, for His power is made perfect in weakness. If we are weak, we are strong in Christ.

Monday Movie Review

Flawless
rated PG-13
We gave this movie *** and a 1/2 stars.
The story of this movie takes place in Britain set in the 1960's and loosely based on actual events. And is a jewel heist story with a twist! For awhile Stephen and I couldn't figure out how he stole the diamonds! In the end there is a deeper meaning behind the theft. Good flick!

Beyond a Reasonable Doubt
rated PG-13
We gave this move ** and a 1/2 stars.
Stephen and I enjoy criminal justice stories...but when the plot gets to be unbelievable (like there is no way any person would ever volunteer to do that!) the story becomes a bit far fetched. This one is about a reporter who sets himself up as a suspect for murder only so he can expose a corrupt district attorney's misdeeds. We just kept saying to ourselves, "there's no way I'd set myself up as a suspect!" So I guess if you're home sick and having a movie marathon, this one would be worth downloading since you have the time.

Monday Movie Review

The Hurt Locker
rated R
We gave this movie *** stars.
This was the winner of the Best Picture Oscar. After we watched the Oscars I was sure to put all the nominated movies into our DVD que on Netflix. Well this weekend we received The Hurt Locker. We were anxious to watch this drama following one of the U.S. Army's elite EOD (explosive ordnance disposal) teams operating in the ferocious war zone of Iraq. It definitely had many intense parts - couldn't imagine having that task. There were a couple of slow parts during the movie, and Stephen and I found the ending a bit dumb. But it's worth renting and seeing. The average rating on Netflix is **** stars, but we thought it to be more of an average movie. We wondered why it was named The Hurt Locker, so I Googled it: If someone inflicts pain on someone else, they are said to be "putting them in the Hurt Locker". It is a colloquialism, that means to cause someone physical or mental suffering. Another similar phrase is, "a world of hurt" meaning that someone is in (or is going to be in) a great deal of physical , mental, or emotional suffering. The title makes sense, I kept saying to Stephen - I don't understand why these terrorist make these bombs and then wait to watch a team try and dispose them, is it just a sick thrill?

Monday (Belated) Movie Review

Couples Retreat
rated PG-13
We gave this movie *** stars
Netflix sent us this DVD last week and I believe it took over 4 days to finish watching it. You have to understand, Stephen and I work opposite schedules so often our time together is during the mid afternoons, but once Madeline is home from school it's sometimes difficult to get through a movie without interuptions. Anyways, we had heard from several people how funny this movie was. And it had it's funny parts, but I guess we expected more. Maybe watching it broken down into several different parts took away from the funnyness. But overall it was a descent romantic comedy. Typical guy/girl topics. Definitely worth a $1 rental from Redbox or a rental from Netflix if you're a member.
The Proposal
rated PG-13
We gave this movie *** and 1/2 stars
We actually first saw this movie on our flight to Boston last September - it was hilarious and we really enjoyed it. It was newly released on Netflix so we instantly streamed it to our Blu-ray. I enjoyed watching it once again. Sandra does a great job acting her part as an overbearing editor who is Canadian and in fear of being deported. Cute love story!

Monday Movie Review

We saw 2 dragon movies this week! :)

Reign of Fire

rated PG-13

I gave this movie *** stars.
This first dragon movie we watched via Netflix was this one. In post-apocalyptic England, an American volunteer (Matthew McConaughey) and a British survivor (Christian Bale) team up to fight off a brood of fire-breathing dragons seeking to return to global dominance after centuries of rest underground. Stephen fell asleep, not because he was bored but because he was tired. So I watched the rest of it, it was an enjoyable movie!

How to Train Your Dragon
rated PG
We gave this movie **** stars.
The 2nd dragon movie we saw this week was in the theaters. We took the kids to see this eye-catching, colorful animation in 3D! It's a cute story about Vikings battling off dragons. It has great action and quality voice talent. We really enjoyed this one, it's worth seeing. And now I've got to fill the kids Easter baskets with dragon and viking stuff!

The Stoning of Soraya M.
rated R
I gave this movie **** stars.
This movie definitely isn't for the weak of heart. There's realistic scenes of a stoning. From the filmmaker who produced “The Passion of the Christ” comes a powerful film, a modern-day parable, based on an incredible true story of sacrifice, oppression and mob rule. A village’s persecution of an innocent woman. my watching it through tear-filled eyes at points, I do highly recommend this movie.

Monday Movie Review

The Twilight Saga: New Moon
rated PG-13
We gave this movie *** and a half stars.
This is the sequel to Twilight. Bella Swan is reeling from the departure of her vampire love, Edward Cullen, and finds comfort in her friendship with Jacob Black, a werewolf. Stephen and I are definitely "Team Werewolf"! Of course the movie ends leaving room for another sequel. Looking forward to seeing the next one!

Paper Clips
rated G
Stephen gave this movie *** stars.
I only watched a few parts from it. But it's about Whitwell Middle School in rural Tennessee doing an extraordinary experiment in Holocaust education. Struggling to grasp the concept of 6 million Holocaust victims, the students decide to collect 6 million paper clips to better understand the enormity of the calamity. The film details how the students met Holocaust survivors from around the world and how the experience transformed them and their community. It actually cause me to request hearing from my parents, tantes and ooms of their parents wartime stories. Both of my Opa's were put in Japanese concentration camps for several years, and my great grandparents along with my great oom went into hiding in Holland from the nazis. I'm documenting all these stories so one day I can share this history with Madeline and James.

Monday Movie Review

Taking Chance
rated NR
We gave this movie *** stars.
Based on an article by Marine Lt. Col. Michael Strobl, this HBO original film tells the story of Strobl's emotional experience traveling across America as a volunteer escort officer for the body of fallen 19-year-old marine Chance Phelps. Along the 2004 journey to Phelps' hometown in Wyoming, Strobl witnesses -- and is moved by -- acts of respect by everyday Americans.
This was a slow paced movie but Stephen and I were drawn to watch it. I know many people who feel there is no need to fuss over some one's dead body (have a funeral or memorial, bury or place their ashes, bring flowers to their site, etc.) because their soul is no longer there, they are gone. While I agree their soul is gone, I believe these acts of kindness and gratitude help us to not forget that life is short. That we should respect and love our neighbors while they are alive. This movie left us feeling very solemn and thankful.

Mee-Shee: The Water Giant
rated PG
We gave this movie *** stars.
The kids and I enjoyed this movie about a boy who tracks down a lake monster in the Canadian wilderness. A typical gentle giant film great for the whole family! Madeline and James were really drawn to the movie and anticipating the exciting parts, they both jumped out of their chairs when Stephen opened our patio door at a tense part. LOL

The Cutting Edge 3
rated PG-13
I gave this movie *** stars.
I watched this one on my own while exercising on my recumbent bike. Don't know about any of you but I loved the original The Cutting Edge. This one is basically the same story line except the roles are switched and it's the girl who is the hockey player. Sort of with a 90210-ish feel. But I enjoyed it and anticipated them doing the Pampchenco move! Great rainy-day-in movie.

Monday Movie Review

Stolen Summer
rated PG
I gave this movie **** stars.
This heart-tugging family drama follows the divine mission of Pete O'Malley, an Irish-Catholic 8-year-old in Chicago who aims to get his terminally ill Jewish friend into heaven -- through religious conversion. I found this movie under the "Faith & Spirituality" section of Netflix. I really enjoyed it. Seeing Faith through an 8 year olds perspective was great. This film even moved me to tears. Definitely worth seeing.
28 Weeks Later
rated R
We gave this movie *** stars.
*Warning, if you do not like thrillers / zombie movies then this is not the movie for you! My husband likes thrillers, so this was his choice and I sat through and watched it. There were definitely some scenes I had to close my eyes on though. In this chilling sequel to 28 Days Later, the inhabitants of the British Isles appear to have lost their battle against the onslaught of disease, as the deadly rage virus has killed every citizen there. Six months later, a group of Americans dare to set foot on the isles, convinced the danger has come and gone. But it soon becomes all too clear that the scourge continues to live, waiting to pounce on its next victims.

Monday Movie Review...a day late

Avatar
rated PG-13
I gave this movie **** and 1/2 stars.
Obviously we did not see this movie via our blu-ray Netflix, Stephen and I actually got to go out on a movie date and see this in the theaters...in 3D! I heard lots of people raving about it including my parents who saw it twice. I'm so glad we went to see it, it was an excellent show! Sort of Alien meets Matrix meets "insert love story". The story takes place in the year 2154 on Pandora, a lush, Earth-like moon of the planet Polyphemus. There is a human corporation mining a mineral on that moon. But Pandora's atmosphere is toxic to humans, forcing them to use breathing masks. Pandora is inhabited by the Na'vi, a ten-foot-tall blue-skinned species of sapient humanoids, who live in harmony with nature, worshiping a mother goddess called Eywa. To facilitate relations with the Na'vi and research of Pandora's biosphere, scientists grow Na'vi-human hybrid bodies called avatars that are operated via mental link by genetically matching humans. The expansion of the mining colony threatens the continued existence of a local tribe of Na'vi...and so the story goes. The scenery was absolutely beautiful, made me wonder if Heaven would be like that. So if you haven't seen this, definitely go check it out! I hear it's even better in IMAX.
The Taking of Pelham 123
rated R
We gave this movie ** stars.
Stephen and I both think Denzel and Travolta are great actors and often play in great movies. This one though was so-so. There was a lot of foul language which was a turn off, why do New Yorkers always have to be portrayed that way? A group of hijackers led by criminal mastermind Ryder (John Travolta) take the passengers aboard a New York subway train hostage and demand a king's ransom. A subway dispatcher Walter Garber (Denzel Washington) tries to help bring them down. Guess this one could've been better.

Airline: Season 1
rated NR
We gave this series **** stars.
This hit reality-TV series takes viewers behind the ticket counter, into the cockpit and beyond the airport tarmac. "Airline" chronicles the ups and downs of passengers who board Southwest flights at Los Angeles International and Chicago's Midway Airport. You have to understand I come from a family full of airline workers, and now Stephen works at a Hertz airport location. So we can so relate with seeing these crazy passengers every once in awhile. This show definitely makes us laugh - the things some people do or the way they behave is amazing!

Monday Movie Review

Twilight
rated PG-13
We gave this movie *** stars.
I waited to watch this one with Stephen this weekend because he said he wanted to see it. Stephen said after seeing it, "what was all the hoop la about!". We found ourselves saying during the movie how unrealistic it is for these townspeople not to recognize what these really pale people are! LOL So I knew it was a movie about vampires, didn't know the story was about "good vampires". That was sort of refreshing. It was also a cute teeny-bopper romance story. So I enjoyed that part, Stephen not so much. Oh and we also couldn't figure out why so many girls were going ga-ga over Robert Pattinson...we didn't think he was the heart throb many have made him out to be. But I would say this movie is definitely worth renting. It was entertaining!

Kidnapped: The Complete Series
rated NR
I gave this movie tv series **** stars.
I can't believe this tv series got canceled! I liked it a lot. Much like the Mel Gibson movie, Ransom. The lives of millionaire Conrad Cain and his wife, Ellie, are thrown into chaos when their teenage son is kidnapped on his way to school. As the list of suspects grows, the couple enlists a crack team of investigators to help them safely retrieve their son -- and protect their deeply guarded secrets. I was definitely hooked on this 12 part series and finished it in a week. Definitely worth seeing.

Call of the Wild
rated PG
I gave this movie *** and 1/2 stars.
Nine-year-old city girl Ryann Hale (who looks a lot like Madeline!) is a real fish out of water when she visits Grandpa Bill in the freezing, mall-free world of small-town Montana. But Ryann begins to change her mind about the outdoors when she befriends a wounded wild dog. Nursing Buck back to health, Ryann sets her sights on winning a big dogsledding competition in this modern-day adaptation of the beloved Jack London classic. This was a very cute family movie. The kids and I watched it. It was very touching and enjoyable.

Monday Movie Review

Forever Strong
rated PG-13
We gave this movie **** stars.
And I thought football was a tough sport...Rugby is even tougher! Stephen and I enjoyed this great sports movie much like Rudy and Remember the Titans. Rick is a star player on his dad's rugby team until a DUI lands him in a reformatory. While he's serving his sentence, tough rival coach Larry Gelwix allows him to play for his team, which helps Rick straighten up his act. There is a lot of heart in this movie and it is really inspiring - definitely worth seeing!

Prison Break: The Final Break
rated NR
We gave this movie *** stars
Stephen and I were really into the TV series Prison Break so we were anxious to see this movie which fills in the 5 year gap that happens in the TV finale. You know the main character died from the TV series but didn't know how. Of course this movie was typical Hollywood and not believable in certain parts of the storyline but other than that it was a good closer for the TV series we once really enjoyed - so if you were a fan definitely see it.

88 Minutes
rated R
We gave this movie *** stars.
Jack Gramm (Al Pacino) -- a college professor and occasional forensic psychologist for the FBI -- finds himself in a race against time when he receives a mysterious phone call telling him he has exactly 88 minutes left to live. This is one of those suspenseful thriller movies and basically falls under the "who-dun-it" murder mystery. Stephen and I like to discuss during these types of movies who we think is the murderer. Stephen won on this one! It's a good flick for a rainy night (like we had last week).

Monday Movie Review

The Boy in the Striped Pajamas
rated PG-13
We gave this movie ***** stars
This was such a touching and heart wrenching movie. About a young German boy whose Nazi father moves his family to Poland. The boy explores the grounds around his new home and befriends a boy on the other side of the fence who is always wearing striped pajamas. The boy is unaware of his new friend's fate as a Jewish prisoner. After watching this reminder of the Holocaust, it's really hard to stomach what the Nazi's did. Definitely a movie worth seeing!

In the Electric Mist
rated R
I gave this movie ** and 1/2 stars
Detective Dave Robicheaux (Tommy Lee Jones) finds himself swimming in a murky sea of corruption, deception and lies when he probes the connection between a rash of murders and a notorious New Orleans mobster (John Goodman) -- and discovers secrets that were better left untold. This was definitely not one of Tommy Lee's best films. I'm totally into CSI shows, and this film had that theme. But Stephen fell asleep watching it. So I guess it was alright.

Made of Honor
rated PG-13
I gave this movie *** stars
Definitely a spin off from Julia Robert's film "My Best Friend's Wedding", but I didn't like this one as much. Happy-go-lucky playboy Tom (Patrick Dempsey) finally decides to propose to his best friend, Hannah (Michelle Monaghan), when she returns from a trip. But when she gets home, she announces that she's engaged -- and asks Tom to be in the wedding. I did however enjoy the backdrop setting of part of the film was in Ireland. And I love all things "wedding". So it was enjoyable.

Hannah Montana: The Movie
rated G
We gave this movie **** stars
Definitely a cute Disney film. Madeline enjoyed this one and so did I! When the pop star fame of her secret alter ego, Hannah Montana, becomes too much to bear, Miley Stewart (Miley Cyrus) takes a break and journeys back to her Tennessee hometown of Crowley Corners for a much-needed break from the spotlight. Miley is a talented singer and actress. We enjoyed her music on this movie, she sings "The Climb" towards the end - it's a favorite song of Stephen and mine. Even if you don't have kids, it's an enjoyable film to see.

Tennessee
rated R
I gave this movie ** and 1/2 stars
Definitely a dark set, slow going movie. On a cross-country trip to find their estranged father, brothers Carter (Adam Rothenberg) and Ellis (Ethan Peck) -- whose life is on the line -- meet waitress Krystal (Mariah Carey). The aspiring singer decides to drive the brothers to Nashville in hopes of jump starting her career. The film touches on the subject of physical abuse. And ends bitter sweetly. It was an okay movie.

Monday Movie Review

Heroes, Season 1 -
rating NR
Stephen gives this series ***** stars.
So since we've gotten this blu-ray Netflix we've been comparing notes with mom and dad Nix (by the way I think my Dad has told everyone he talks with how awesome this instant Netflix streaming through your blu-ray is). And my parents recommended we watch the TV series Heroes through it. We've heard great stuff about this drama series. It follows a global group of everyday people who, in the midst of their perfectly normal lives, awake to discover they have special powers -- from stopping time to reading people's thoughts. The newly minted superheroes eventually join forces to defeat their mutual foe, who plots to steal their super-DNA and destroy the world. Well I haven't gotten past watching the first episode (haven't found the time) but Stephen is HOOKED on this series. I mean he even gets home from work at 3am and watches an episode just cause he can't wait to see what happens next. So we definitely recommend this one.

Saint Ralph -
rated PG-13
We gave this movie **** stars.
Ralph is a typical teenager with atypical questions, the largest of which concerns his mother. She's fallen into a coma, and the 14-year-old has set his sights on winning the 1954 Boston Marathon in a makeshift barter with God to make his mother well. Definitely a sentimental fantasy, joining running, the Catholic religion and a boy who is at that awkward puberty stage. I started watching this one night and then paused it to wait and watch with Stephen as I had a hunch he would enjoy this one too. We laughed at many parts (as Stephen was reminded of his typical boyhood feelings)...I guess if you have an uneasiness with boys going through puberty or Catholic practices during the 1950's this isn't the movie for you. But we thoroughly enjoyed it!

The main actor, Adam Butcher, had a striking resemblance to Stephen's cousin Matthew! I picked up on it right away and mentioned it to Stephen - he agreed he saw the resemblance.

So I asked Matt's dear wife, Mickie, if she could email me some photos of Matt in his younger years to compare.
Don't they look alike!?

I mean the face, the hair and eye color, the freckles across the nose, the ears, the body type. Totally thought of Matt when we watched this movie!

Monday Movie Review

I've always wanted to have some sort of weekly themed post and I think I've come up with one! Since having our awesome blu-ray player with instant streaming to over 17,000 movies and shows on Netflix we've sort of become TV junkies (which is why I am adamantly searching for a used treadmill or exercise bike on Craigslist to put in front of our TV :). Seriously though, it's so awesome to have access to all these great films! So I'm going to try and post every Monday reviews on what we've watched that week.
So here goes...

The Secret Life of Bees -
rated PG-13
I give it **** and 1/2 stars.

I watched this one myself as Stephen thought it looked like a girly movie since there are 5 girls on the cover. But it wasn't. It was a movie about self discovery set in the racial tensions of the South in the 1960's. I was touched by this drama, it reminded me that we don't know our path in life and things just happen for a reason. God's definitely teaching us with the misfortunes that come our way. Great acting! Definitely worth seeing!

Passengers -
rated PG-13
I give it **** stars.

This move caught my eye as I am always intrigued with plane crash stories. A therapist works with surviving passengers of a plane crash, she discovers that their individual accounts of the tragedy differ significantly from the airline's official version. This is also one of those movies with a twist at the end. Definitely one of those movies that makes you ponder about life and death. I was moved by this film. Definitely worth a selection on Netflix or $1 at Redbox.

Dexter, Season 1 -
rated NR
We give this TV series ***** stars!
To those that know me well, you probably wouldn't have guessed that I would enjoy a morbid Showtime series such as this one. But Stephen and I just got hooked on this show and never saw the first season so we had a Dexter marathon last week! Dexter is a sympathetic serial killer, I know sounds weird, but he's really a likable forensics expert who channels his violent tendencies into knocking off miscreants. You know those really bad people that slipped through the system and got off of doing time but really should be spending their days on death row so they won't do anyone else harm. Well Dex gets rid of them so to speak. Stephen and I enjoyed the Miami culture more present in this first season. It was good to finally get a picture of what they've referred to in the past 2 seasons. If you like crime scene shows and can handle a morbid sense of humor this is a great show to watch!

Have you seen it? ...Slumdog Millionaire

My brother David, posted about this movie back in January. You can read his post here. Ever since I wanted to see it. Well the other day in Walmart I was returning a movie to RedBox and saw that Slumdog Millionaire came out on DVD today, I was in luck there was one in the box - score a movie at home night only for one buck!

Like David and Armilyn felt it was difficult to see in the movie the slums of Mumbai portrayed...knowing there are truly places of utter poverty here in our world like that. I told Stephen that I could not imagine Madeline and James growing up in a place like that sleeping on top of mounds of trash. It made me sad to think of all the children in this world living that way today. I pray for those children.

They did an awesome job with this movie. In some of the scenes of the main character as a boy, they had Stephen and I cracking up! Not in a million years could I do what that kid did in the out house! Can I say Y U C K !!! LOL You could smell the poop covered boy through the TV screen!
Anyways, if you haven't seen it...you should! It's worth at least a buck (do you have a RedBox near you?). "Slumdog Millionaire" actually has a powerful, positive message. To add some perspective, here's a bit of insightful commentary on the movie by Father Robert Barron:

*You can pause my music playlist on the sidebar so you can hear the video better.
And here is the Bollywood dance scene, love it!...

Stephen swears he can easily do this dance, would love to get that on video! ;)
