Makeover at work

So at my job business is expanding. And so are our workspaces. Our building has grown thousands of square feet, rooms and spaces are being moved around. And since we're an art company everything is getting redecorated too. :) We also have a very famous and huge publisher coming to visit, we're seeking them as a potential client/partner. So we've redone our lobby/gallery. My brother and sister in-law will probably recognize the publications we've hung up as art. I love all the vintage photography and art.

We wanted our lobby gallery to have the feel of a true art gallery. So they re did the flooring and walls this weekend. I think it looks great! This image above of the woman reading is a new favorite of mine. I wish now a days women were still expected to dress up like this.

They are moving departments around in the new building space. When I first started here 4 years ago, my cubicle was in this room. Now it is our new break room! With a bar, ping pong and game table, television and comfy seating. The wall mural you see is artwork by one of our exclusive artists that I just color corrected last week. It's neat to see the stuff I work on go up on walls.

This is the current space I work in with 4 other gals. I sit in the middle station, and the artwork on the wall is what I am currently working on. I'll be moving spaces in the next month to the new building space. Our room will be twice the size.
Exciting stuff happening, I'm fortunate to work for such a fun company!

I have a pretty cool job...

I am really fortunate that I landed a job with such a cool art company. And that they are so flexible with me and the part time schedule I want to work so I can be home with the kids in the afternoons. Here's a short video of my work showing what we do and the environment we work in (it's pretty awesome and fun!). I am an Imaging Specialist, you will see my co-workers Sarah and Cassie in the video showing what we do. My 4 year anniversary with the company is coming up this August.

Blogging Pays Off

I devote a lot of time to blogging, it's something I enjoy doing. So I was super thrilled when my work asked me to be on a team of bloggers for my work's blog. I've been e-interviewing the artists whose work we publish and then posting about it. I asked for help both here on my personal blog and on my Facebook to visit, like and comment on my posts. Well it paid off, I earned the most points in October for blogging! I was able to pick from several rewards and choose a gift card to the Alamo Drafthouse. It's one of our favorite date night spots, dinner & a movie all there for you. Can't wait to use it. What good movies are out now?

Some of you may follow my 365 daily photo blog, Shutterbug Ma'am. Or maybe not. But I've reached a milestone on there, I've taken over 265 daily photos and I've got less than 100 to go! Can't believe it. It's been fun and challenging - can't wait to put my 365 photos into a coffee table photobook when I'm done.

Will you please?

Will you please keep Stephen in your prayers? He has a formal interview scheduled for Wednesday for the position he's trying to get promoted to.

Posting this prayer once again:

God, our Father, we turn to you seeking your divine help and guidance. Stephen needs your wisdom to guide his footsteps along the right path, and to lead him to find the proper things to say and do in this quest. Stephen wishes to use the gifts and talents you have given him, but he needs the opportunity to do so. Do not abandon him, dear Father, in this search, but rather grant him this favor he seeks so that he may return to you with praise and thanksgiving for your gracious assistance. Grant this through Christ, our Lord. Amen.

A glimpse

I am really fortunate to be working for such an awesome company! I thought I'd give y'all a glimpse of where I go every morning (well 5 days a week). The company has really grown since I've been there the 2.5 years. And business is great! The owners gave our front lobby and hallway a face lift with new artwork and furniture.

The cool thing is, all the artwork you see up on the walls was worked on by me! I scanned the original artwork, color corrected the digital files to match the original artwork as close as possible and then made master print files to print from. These are all printed on acrylic, metal, wood and canvas. Pretty snazzy huh?

Also, I had my review with my Art Director boss this Monday - and I earned a raise! Love my job.

What I do

Gallery Direct - Behind the scenes from Gallery Direct on Vimeo.

The company I work for is celebrating it's 10th year anniversary, and we're really expanding! I feel so fortunate to be working for a company like this. They accomadate my part time work schedule and I get to work with art everyday! Just recently our company made a "behind the scenes" video of how our company works. They happened to film in the afternoon when both my co-worker and I were out of the office - we're the only two people here that do Steps 2 and 3, scanning and color correction. So one of our lovely customer service gals sat in for us (she's the blonde) showing what we do in Steps 2 and 3. In Step 3 you will see my Art Director in the black shirt pointing to the art. He approves all of my work. Any who, I thought some of you might be curious as to what I do at work. So here it is! Check out our websites: http://www.newerahd.com/ (for the design trade only) and http://www.gallerydirect.com/ (for all of our regular customers). If you'd like to order anything from Gallery Direct I have a 50% of promo code for friends and family, just email me if you'd like it.

Vintage

At my work we normally publish from original works of art from 65+ artist across the country and print limited editions. Well the owner just added a new form of art to sell to the public, vintage art. These posters and advertisements reminded me of the type of art my brother and sister in-law like. So I was browsing through our inventory - it's crazy how the world of advertisement has changed vastly due to the computer age. Now practically anyone could create an ad for something online. These vintage artist took their time really thinking out how they wanted to relay their message/product/service in their art. I found a few I liked. I might have to create a vintage art wall somewhere in our new home. :)

Moving on up :)

At work yesterday my boss called me into his office and offered me a new position at the company! For the 3 months I've been with the company I've been working as a Lead Generation teleservice rep, making calls to Interior Designers / Architects and retailers across the country to see if they utilized artwork and if they did I got them more info about us. When I was hired they were aware of my background (Art & Architecture), experience (7 years at an Architecture firm) and my BA in Graphic Design, so my boss said he was quite confident that I would eventually be able to move up into maybe an Art Consultant position. Well just recently a position opened up in their Prepress department and they needed someone with Photoshop experience who could work with their Print Clients/Artist, scan and color correct their artwork - so they offered it to me! :) I could still keep my part time hours, which is great, and they are willing to have me go through some Photoshop refresher training (paid for) so I feel comfortable moving into the position. I feel so blessed to have been given this opportunity, and it's great getting "back into" my passion line of work. So I just wanted to share the great news! Thanks y'all for being so supportive of me. I love y'all! Please visit my company's website, they just launched a new update of the site: www.newerahd.com. I wanted to share a piece from a New Era artist, Karen Wilkerson, the above piece is titled, "Evening Allure II".

Update - Swim & Hertz

So Madeline completed 1 week of swim lessons. She's progressing slowly. She's always had this huge fear of getting water on her face or putting her head under water. She keeps telling her teachers, Miss Michelle and Mr. Barry - "No I can't do it." They try to coax her into it, and a few times she's tried. She even jumped in the pool, went under water and then swam back to the stairs with Miss Michelle. But she only did it as long as she only had to do it "once" that day. :-) So we had a talk, and Madeline is ready for next week swim lessons. She said she wasn't going to say, "No I can't do it." and try out everything her teachers ask. So we'll see.

Not much of an update with Stephen's situation at work. His boss has yet to fill the Level 2 position. Stephen has been working his butt off. He just called a meeting on his day off last weekend with all the counter reps (the dept he now oversees) and that went well. Keep praying for this promotion, we really appreciate it! Thanks a million.
