Monday Movie Review

Heroes, Season 1 -
rating NR
Stephen gives this series ***** stars.
So since we've gotten this blu-ray Netflix we've been comparing notes with mom and dad Nix (by the way I think my Dad has told everyone he talks with how awesome this instant Netflix streaming through your blu-ray is). And my parents recommended we watch the TV series Heroes through it. We've heard great stuff about this drama series. It follows a global group of everyday people who, in the midst of their perfectly normal lives, awake to discover they have special powers -- from stopping time to reading people's thoughts. The newly minted superheroes eventually join forces to defeat their mutual foe, who plots to steal their super-DNA and destroy the world. Well I haven't gotten past watching the first episode (haven't found the time) but Stephen is HOOKED on this series. I mean he even gets home from work at 3am and watches an episode just cause he can't wait to see what happens next. So we definitely recommend this one.

Saint Ralph -
rated PG-13
We gave this movie **** stars.
Ralph is a typical teenager with atypical questions, the largest of which concerns his mother. She's fallen into a coma, and the 14-year-old has set his sights on winning the 1954 Boston Marathon in a makeshift barter with God to make his mother well. Definitely a sentimental fantasy, joining running, the Catholic religion and a boy who is at that awkward puberty stage. I started watching this one night and then paused it to wait and watch with Stephen as I had a hunch he would enjoy this one too. We laughed at many parts (as Stephen was reminded of his typical boyhood feelings)...I guess if you have an uneasiness with boys going through puberty or Catholic practices during the 1950's this isn't the movie for you. But we thoroughly enjoyed it!

The main actor, Adam Butcher, had a striking resemblance to Stephen's cousin Matthew! I picked up on it right away and mentioned it to Stephen - he agreed he saw the resemblance.

So I asked Matt's dear wife, Mickie, if she could email me some photos of Matt in his younger years to compare.
Don't they look alike!?

I mean the face, the hair and eye color, the freckles across the nose, the ears, the body type. Totally thought of Matt when we watched this movie!

HA How funny! That's great. In that last picture he actually looks a bit like our friend Cooper too!(My younger brothers best friend http://coltonsblogthingy.blogspot.com/)

I have heard good things about Hero's too. Maybe next time I am sick i'll have to rent the first season and give it a go. The reason i say "When I am Sick" is so that I actually have the time to watch it. Most people that tell me about it are like Stephen and end up watching it like crazy! :)

I was just going to say that he looks like Cooper too!

I enjoyed watching the first season of Heroes. The second season was ok and then I just couldn't watch it any more. I lost interest. Will still enjoys it though.

Hey there friend! Enjoying the reviews. I will weekly look forward to this as we are always trying to think of a good movie to rent...not that it happens often though. We rented Julie & Julia this past weekend. More of a girl movie, but we did enjoy it. Have you seen it? And yes, I love RedBox, this was our first time renting from it.
