The town of San Marcos (about 10 min South of us) had their Veteran's Day parade today so more people could attend, since many still had work or school yesterday.
So we picked up some donuts and headed down.
There were many vets in the parade, it was nice to be able to wave at them and say thank you. A lot of local businesses and schools participated in the parade too.
The kids were happy when people in the parade gave them candy.
We saw a lot of cool old cars and also some loud motorcycles.
We noticed we were sitting right by a historic park near the river. We walked around and I staked out some good spots that I want to come back to to take Christmas portraits.
Tomorrow is Veterans Day. It was sad to watch todays funeral at Ft. Hood; tomorrow those victims along with thousands of soldiers who died for this country, or those still alive that served in our military or fought in a war will be remembered. At Madeline's school they created a "wall of honor" along their brick wall that leads to their school library. The students were asked to bring photos and info of any relatives that have served in our military. Madeline brought the above photos of her Poppi and Opa. She's very proud that their photos are hanging on the "wall of honor" and that she sees them everytime she goes to the library.
One of Madeline's friend in class is without her Daddy who is fighting in Iraq. He sent her a DVD of him reading her a few books. Her mommy sent it to Madeline's teacher and played it for the class - how special of that family to share.
I just saw this commercial even though it's a few years old, what an awesome reaction...
