Back to school weekend

Have you been paying attention to the ticker at the top of my blog? Yup counting down the days until the kids go to school - less than a week! So Stephen and I took off this Monday to have a fun back-to-school weekend with the family before we got back into the routine of things. My cousin Whitney and his wife Pamela and daughter Ariel planned to come out for the weekend. We hit up Salt Lick BBQ in Driftwood as we had shown it to them on Man vs. Food TV episode. It also happens to be one of our favorite BBQ's to take visitors to. When we got there we sat outside to wait for our table. Enjoyed our drinks and listened to some live music.

We had a feast of a meal, it was yummy! We had brisket, pork ribs, sausage and turkey.
Are you drooling yet?

On Monday we all went to Six Flags. Whitney, Pam and Ariel got to get their roller coaster fix in. And the kids enjoyed all their favorite rides.

After we went on the Power Surge ride the kids and Whitney decided to stand on the bridge to experience getting wet from the tidal wave that occurs from the ride. Only at the last minute Whitney and Madeline ran away and James was left to get drenched. You should have seen the expression on his face afterwards - he didn't know whether to get mad or laugh hysterically!

While we were sitting in the shade taking a break, this nice friendly stranger walked up to James and asked him if he would like to have her Green Lantern guy, she had won it at a game. James didn't know what to say he just looked at us. I smiled and told him to tell her "yes and thank you." Needless to say he was thrilled.

After spending several hours on the rides we were hot and needed to cool off, so we went to the water park section. Went in the wave pool and lazy river. We also went on the Texas Tumble ultimate family raft water slide. Madeline rode with Stephen and Ariel. And James rode with Whitney and myself. This is the video from the ride. So much fun!

After Six Flags we were starving and wanted to check out one of the other Man vs. Food locations in San Antonio but we were SO bummed they were both closed on Mondays! Ariel looked up on tvfoodmaps.com and we found another spot that was featured on Diners, Drive-ins & Dives...Dough Pizzeria! We didn't know what to expect. It was actually and fancy-nancy Italian restaurant. We decided to stay and try it out. So glad we did! I think this is as close to Italy as I will get in awhile.

Our server suggested this appetizer, freshly made mozzarella burrata. Wow it was super amazing and we all really enjoyed it. Now this restaurant did not have a kids menu but our server was great and brought the kids out their own pizza dough to make into any shape they wanted, he then took it back to the kitchen and baked them their personal pizzas.

This was the yummy pizza Stephen and I shared. It was another great meal! Our last evening with our cousins we had funny conversation (laughing SO hard we were crying!) and played some dominoes. It was a fun way to end our summer. I'm so glad they came.

I think I posted these on my Facebook but wanted to share on here too. Last Tuesday my Oom and Tante from Houston came over from a visit bringing my Tante from Holland. It was a nice afternoon seeing one another. The kids wore their clothes they got from Holland, so of course I had to take a pic. Hope everyone is enjoying the end of their summer!
