Pralinutta Palmiers

Many of you may not know but in my early college years (wow is it nearly 10 years ago that I graduated college!?) I worked part time at a Vie de France bakery. Heaven for my taste buds, but you know what for my thighs! LOL Some of my favorite French pastries from there were their chocolate almond croissants (pictured above) and their almond palmiers! I didn't mind closing shifts cause that meant I got to take home a lot of day old pastries and breads! Well looks like my children have inherited my sweet tooth, they love pastries too and they also love their chocolate toast! They are addicted to Pralinutta on toast! Pralinutta is just like Nutella, only it's a less expensive brand. They sell for $1.99 a jar at my local grocer. So the other day I came across this recipe online using chocolate hazelnut spread on puff pastry to make chocolate palmiers. Mmmmmmmmmm. The recipe was super easy. So I gave it a whirl! It's a great, easy-to-make, yummy, fluffy, lite dessert for under $6! I thought they sort of look like hearts too, so cute Valentine cookies to make also. Here's how I made them...

All you need are some puff pastry sheets and some chocolate hazelnut spread.

Put a layer of spread on the sheet. I did a thin layer, but next time I'm going to put it on a little thicker as it melts into the pastry dough, so the chocolate hazelnut taste is very lite.

Roll both sides in until they meet in the middle.

Cut about half inch palmiers. They flatten a little while cutting, but don't worry they will perk back out in the oven.

Bake them in the oven at 400 degrees for about 12 minutes or until lightly golden. The aroma in my home reminded me of smelling the chocolate croissants baking at Vie de France.

I sprinkled a little confectioners sugar on mine for the extra sweetness. They were super yummy! James and his buddy ate 3 each right as they came out of the oven! I also love that they are lite and fluffy. Will definitely be baking these again! Try them out, believe me you'll enjoy them.
