Blessing of a new hospital

Our town, Kyle, is one of the top 10 fastest growing cities in Texas. And on October 1st this brand new hospital, Seton Medical Center Hays, is opening! It's only about 3 miles from our new home. On Sunday evening they hosted a blessing celebration and everyone in the community was invited. So we decided to take the kids and check it out.

Seton family of hospitals was founded by the Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul, a Catholic organization that dates back to 17th century France. They dedicated themselves to expressing God's love through services to the sick, the poor and the destitute. The Daughters came to America largely through the efforts of Elizabeth Ann Seton, a widow who adopted the philosophy of St. Vincent de Paul. Seton Family of Hospitals is named for Elizabeth, who was made the first American-born Catholic saint. In the photo above a priest blesses the front doors of the hospital.
Their emergency room.
Their emergency room has 31 beds!
This hospital contains the most state of the art technology, including the best CT Scanner in the area...
...as well as an open heart surgery facility. Here they had a dummy laying down for surgery. The man next to it operated the dummy by making him have moaning pains and cough. The kids thought it was so funny.
This decorative metal tree was welded by one of the employees of the hospital.
As we walked into the beautiful Chapel, Stephen and I immediately recognized the distinct smell...it smelled of incense like at any other Catholic parish. These sleek and modern chairs even had kneelers on the bottom back of them.
The hospital blessing was given here in the Chapel.
The tabernacle inside the Chapel preserving the Blessed Sacrament of the Eucharist. How awesome that the sick at this hospital can receive Communion daily.
"In memory of His death and resurrection, we offer you Father, this life giving bread, this saving cup. We thank you for counting us worthy to stand in your presence and serve you. May all of us who share in the body and blood of Christ be brought together in unity of the Holy Spirit...."
The labor and delivery room in the maternity ward.

Checking out the baby nursery.
The front entrance drop off area.
HEB was at the celebration passing out FREE ice cream! :)
Eating some yummy bbq and enjoying the hospital celebration that evening.

After the great live music from Bruce Robison an Austin based country music singer-songwriter (he wrote several famous hits: Travelin' Soldier covered by the Dixie Chicks, Angry All the Time covered by Tim and Faith, and Wrapped covered by George Straight), the hospital put on a SPECTACULAR firework show! Wow better than any 4th of July show we've ever seen!

What a fun celebration to attend! To view photos from the celebration visit www.flickr.com/setonfamily.

Very Cool! You guys had an awesome tour! I hoe you never ave to use that hospital but if you do it's nice to know the facility is brand new top of the line. We just had a brand new hospital open bout 3 miles from us too, only 3 months late I would have LOVED to have Ty there rather then 30 minutes away in Sandy!
