St. Mary's Cathedral

Yesterday we attended Palm Sunday Mass in downtown Austin at St. Mary's Cathedral. I love visiting cathedrals like these where I can admire the beautiful and exquisite architecture. Although this cathedral no where compared in size to when I saw Notre Dame in France, I still was excited to see it and attend a Mass there.

St. Mary's Cathedral was designed by noted Texas architect Nicholas J. Clayton, and is the oldest Catholic church in Austin. It is beautiful Gothic architecture. Construction was completed in 1884, but exquisite French and German stained glass windows were added in the 1890s.

As we sat and listened to the Gospel (Mt 26:14—27:66) and had the artistic visuals inside the cathedral the message was very strong and clear for me yesterday. Wow, what an amazing gift Jesus gave to me! In Father's homily after the Gospel he reminded us that it is only human for us to ask God "Why?", that even Jesus the son of God cried out “Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?” (“My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”) But we must do so and ask so in prayer with Trust. I definitely will not understand many things that happen to me in my life, but certainly my faith in God's love for me brings great comfort.
