Hopdoddy

Hopdoddy - Hopdoddy - Hopdoddy...ya try saying that 3 times in a row. :) This weekend wrapped up our vacation time off. We stayed pretty mellow, watched some movies at home and I did some school clothes shopping for the kids. Stephen was getting a little bit of cabin fever on Saturday so we headed towards downtown to try out a burger joint that our friend Bill recommends and claims "is the best burger he's ever had!". I told him that's a pretty big statement to make! Of course I was curious and had to try them out. It's definitely a more upscale and hip "burger bar" as they call it. No kids menu or anything - but my kids still enjoyed their shakes, cheese burger (Madeline) and fries (James). So they were content. There was a line out the door when we arrived but the hostess said it was only about a 20-25 minute wait. We were given a sun umbrella while waiting in line outside and the host was pouring lemon/cucumber water in those white cone cups for the customers. Pretty hip.

When we walked inside and saw the interior immediately Stephen and I both thought that my brother David and his wife Armilyn would really like this place. The interior design and furniture was totally them. I forgot to take pics, so they will just have to come out for an Austin visit so we can take them there. :) Once inside you still wait in line. You can order drinks at the bar as the line goes right past it. The kids had an oreo shake and I tried their super yummy caramel & sea salt shake. Warning though, the shakes are big and delicious but may ruin your appetite (I had trouble finishing my burger). They had their own brewery beers which Stephen had and liked. We then proceeded and ordered 3 burgers and 1 large fries to share. We just got water for a drink with our meal but I saw they also had their own soda pop flavor machine.

Madeline and I just tried their classic cheeseburger (Madeline's above with just cheese and ketchup). Stephen tried their Goodnight burger which had jalepenos and bbq sauce. I thought their prices were really reasonable for a gourmet burger. Ours were all $6.50 each. They were in pretty gosh darn good as Bill would say. Stephen really liked his. And their Kennebec fries were super delicious too! We were impressed and plan to go back again!

On Sunday was our friend's daughter's birthday luau. This is the family that moved out from CA too and Stephen and I went to high school with Erica.

Here is Erica with her kiddos Michael and Sara.

Madeline with the birthday girl, Sara.

We had a great time with them, always do. It's fun to have old friends living in town. And it was a great way to end our vacation and weekend. Now it's back to the daily grind again. Heck July is almost half over! Can't believe it. Our next big event is our friend's wedding at the end of the month, they asked Stephen and I to be their witnesses. We can't wait to celebrate with them!

Uh YUM~ Those burgers look Amazing. I think I would like that place too, 6.50 a burger too? That IS a good price. You pay 9 bucks now at our red robin for a normal cheeseburger that doesn't look half as good.

Fun pool party Luau too. Ty always looks at the pictures on blogs and he is now asking to go swimming with you guys. I told him when we go visit I am sure you will take us swimming haha :)
