How To: Watermelon Waffle

With the combo of seeing this idea on the web and craving those delicious freshly made Belgian waffles at the brunch Uncle Kevin & Aunt Stormy treated us to...I had to buy myself a waffle maker. I went with the cheap-o $9.95 one just because I had never used one before and didn't know how much I would use it. Turns out it works great!

I bought some waffle mix, food coloring and chocolate chips. (No need to buy an actual watermelon, I just happened to have one sitting on my counter).

Split your waffle batter into two measuring cups. Add a few drops of food coloring.

Now you have your green and pink batter.

Pour the batter creating a "watermelon". Add chocolate chips to represent the "spitting seeds" as James calls them. :) Follow the directions, I cooked mine for 6 minutes.

The kids were excited about them. And if you can't tell Penny is sniffing and trying to figure out why she doesn't get a watermelon waffle.

And wa-la you're done. Super easy. Fun summertime breakfast. James ate 2, he liked them that much.

They were delicious. I'll be making them again next weekend when Madeline's friends come over for a slumber party.
