Life's too short

When we moved here to Texas there were a few things we had to get used to. Big bugs and lightning thunder storms. Still not used to the bugs, but we've actually become used to the thunder storms and often enjoy the lightning shows we'll see out our windows. The kids are even used to them and sleep right through. Well last night we had one of those extreme thunder storms. It woke me up in the middle of the night as the lightning thunder shook our house. Come to find out this morning from our neighbors (I slept through the sirens from the firetrucks racing past our home - go figure), lightning struck down and hit a home in our neighborhood. The home caught fire, but thank God the young couple inside got out safely. And this is all that remains of their brand new home.
It made me ponder about that popular phrase, "Life's too short." Your chances of being struck by lightning are only 1 in 600,000. But this couple could have easily losts their lives early this morning. Heck it struck so close to home, this could have been our home. None of us know when our time here on Earth will be up. And it's reminders like the one we had today so close to home that made me thankful for the hope my Savior gives me in my death, everlasting life with our Lord. His Word says to believe in Him for our salvation. His Word also tells us we will be judged on how we cooperate with God's grace. My reminder today...life's too short not be cooperating with His grace... "Forgive, forget. Bear with the faults of others as you would have them bear with yours. Be patient and understanding. Life is too short to be vengeful or malicious."

4'And forgive us our sins,
For we ourselves also forgive everyone who is indebted to us.
And lead us not into temptation.'" Luke 11:4

For just like the lightning, when it flashes out of one part of the sky, shines to the other part of the sky, so will the Son of Man be in His day. Luke 17:24

Wow what devastation to one home. You're right...we must cherish our homes and our lives!

Amen! Good reminder...

That must have been a nasty strike, looks like it burned the house almost all the way down.

Wow, so close to home! So glad that the family is safe. Makes me think of when my Dads house burned to the ground right before our wedding and my Dad and Shelly barely made it out alive. You really just never know when you will be called into Heaven...live every day like it is the day that the Lord will return.
