Ouch!!!
Yesterday we took the kids to the Hays County Health Clinic to receive their follow up vaccinations. They were a bit behind on them schedule wise because we had to postpone them last year due to the new insurance we had. Anyhow James was due for two, but one of them has been nationally deferred so he would only get one. Madeline unfortunately needed four! And she needed them in order to start Kindergarten this year. Well the nurse administering the vaccinations looked nothing like the friendly nurse in the above photo, and Madeline looked nothing like this trusting boy.
So the nurse administered 2 shots in each of Madeline's arms. I could tell they stung bad and Madeline yelled to the top of her lungs, getting louder and more dramatized each time she was poked. Poor girl. :( Stephen and I calmed her down pretty quickly after the fact. James was second and she administered his in his thigh, tears started rolling after but his cry was short lived. What was a bit bothersome was the nurse gave James a sticker but told Madeline that screamers don't get stickers. Madeline looked confused for a second and I think Stephen and I were a bit appalled, but we just gathered our things and left quickly after that. Stephen wanted to give the nurse a piece of his mind, but it's probably best he didn't. I mean really what does she expect a young kid to do getting that many shots!?
I received an "ouch" today myself...a speeding ticket! And get this, I was going under the posted speed limit! Basically I had just gotten on the freeway and made one lane change (it became an exit lane) to the slow lane. I then saw a cop car with flashing lights in the emergency lane whom was giving a car a ticket. Naturally I took my foot off the accelerator and checked my side mirror to see if I could get over a lane. I couldn't there was too much traffic. So I passed the ticketing cop car cautiously only to look up beyond them and see another cop car parked and targeting me on radar. He turned his lights on and followed me. The cop told me the reason he pulled me over was because I violated a state law that says you must slow down 20mph below the posted speed limit if passing a cop car pulled to the side or try to get over one lane. He clocked me going 58mph in a 65mph zone. Sigh. He's telling me this of course while all of these cars go zipping by us in the slow lane! I was hoping he'd let me go with a warning seeing that I was slowing down, but nope - I got slapped with a speeding ticket. I think I will take it to court and contest.
Lastly an update on our "getting a family dog". Unfortunately we've hit some bumps with the application process with the Rescue Organization. Our neighbor forewarned me that the process seemed as invasive as that of adopting a child! Anyhow so we've been searching with breeders and posters on Craiglist and Kijiji who need to re home their pups or young dogs. We're still favorable to Boxers but we've been checking into other breeds such as lab and golden retrievers, and even coon hounds. We met some mixed lab pups, mixed with German Shepard and Chow...we didn't desire their pointed ears though - we like the floppy ear look better. We've been emailing with a family who has some Boxer mixed pups. By accident their full blood Boxer and full blood Basset Hound mated and had pups! So we googled to find out more about this Hybrid mixed breed. Cause the pics of the pups show that they're super cute! I came across a few people owning that mixed breed, they actually turn into some unique, nice looking dogs. Click here and here to see. So we're going to take the kids to see them, see if we like how they look and act and if we have any connection with them! We'll keep you posted.

Criers dont get stickers? SHEESH that is HARSH! Poor Madeline! I always hated shots too. Good luck on the puppy hunt :) I am sure we'll see pictures of the newest addition soon.
I kept waiting for you to say that the lady was kidding. Man, I'm glad we don't go to that clinic...Cami was holding on the the chair and screamed louder that sound itself...the nurse just laughed a little and said it was ok. After dragging her out of the chair we had to hold her down while she fought us. I didn't even know she was that strong. Afterwards she said it wasn't that bad. Of course Cari didn't take it that hard at all. It get difficult when you know what is going on. Cami did get a sticker!!!
