Family Portraits & Texas BBQ

So as you can see from our Blog banner and these 2 portraits, we haven't had great luck getting an awesome family portrait. Can you tell who is always being the stinker bug in all the portraits? James is a typical boy who won't sit still for anything unless his Curious George DVD is on or he has something yummy in his hands to eat! Ha! I guess the portrait below isn't too terrible. It was taken at Santa Cruz Catholic Church for the parish members directory. I could nit-pick and say Stephen's smile isn't too sincere, Madeline is scrunching up her dress, we have a stuffed animal and a blanket in the portrait, the kids aren't smiling and James' hand is resting on my chest...but I guess it's not too terribly bad. Ha!

Yesterday my Oom Folly, Tante Patty, Oom George, Tante Xenia, cousins Whitney & Eric came to visit from Houston. They brought Tante Patty's sister's family over who are visiting from Holland. We had such a nice visit. For dinner Whitney wanted us all to go eat at Black's BBQ in Lockhart, Texas. Texas is known for their famous BBQ. We've had Stubb's BBQ in Austin before, and Stephen ate with Bill & Ben at Iron Works BBQ. Next on our list to try is Salt Lick BBQ. Not sure which is our favorite yet.
Black's BBQ is in Lockhart, about 30 minute East of our home in Kyle. Once you drove into Lockhart it was really neat seeing all the "Southern" style mansion homes. We'll have to come back around Christmas time to see how they decorate them. Right before turning on the street to Black's we saw the town square (above photo) where the Caldwell County Courthouse is. So neat seeing this old architecture.
We arrived at Black's. It was a pretty slow night there. So we got our food pretty quickly. I forgot to take a photo of the huge tray of meat...brisket, ribs, turkey, sausage. Needless to say it all got eaten with some sides of potato salad, coleslaw, mashed potatoes, beans, veggies and bread. Oom Folly treated us all and said the dinner was on Opa Bierhuizen, Tante Patty's late father who just recently passed. It was really sweet and we enjoyed our BBQ dinner with everyone!

James, James, James... One of these days he'll look back at those pictures and wonder, what was I so grumpy about? I think your family is beautiful even with a confused look on little jimmys face :)

Like father like son in that family portrait. There's nothing like Texas Bar-B-Que. Dickey's Bar-B-Que is the best.
